Orson Welles: 9 Hours on Genius, Sabotage & Hollywood's Broken Promises

Tonight's reel: Orson Welles, the director behind Citizen Kane and Touch of Evil, in his own words. This 9-hour compilation gathers his interviews across five decades into one continuous conversation: a debut hailed as the greatest film ever made, decades of studios recutting and shelving his work, and a man who never stopped fighting for control over his own films. Putting this one together meant working through decades of archival press, festival talks, and old broadcast interviews, then trimming the audio, cleaning it up, and rebuilding it into chapters so it plays as one long conversation instead of a string of clips. That part takes the longest, and it's the part that matters most. This video uses short excerpts of copyrighted interview and film material for the purposes of commentary, education, and historical documentation, consistent with fair use/fair dealing. Rights remain with the original copyright holders. If you're a rights holder with a concern, please reach out and we'll resolve it directly. No jump cuts. No rapid editing. Just Welles talking, at length, about genius, betrayal, and never quite getting the last word.
